Laser Safety Consulting is a leading provider of comprehensive laser safety training, consulting, and certification for laser users and manufacturers. Company founder Darrell Seeley has been involved in laser safety training for well over 15 years and was one of the first people in the United States to become a Certified Laser Safety Officer. He has firsthand experience with laser hazards and how to avoid them, and his dedication to laser safety is the foundation of the company's success.
The two main laser hazards are to the eyes and skin. Fires are also a hazard with Class 4 lasers, and the correct precautions must be taken accordingly. However, for most industrial, medical, and educational laser users and manufacturers, avoiding skin and eye damage is the main concern. Class 1 and 2 lasers present a very small risk in normal usage, so it's really the Class 3A, 3B, and Class 4 lasers that require the most extensive safety training. Areas in which Class 3B or 4 lasers are being used must be considered laser controlled areas. That means that the entire region in which laser hazards could possibly occur must be evaluated and clearly marked. Employees who work in these areas must wear the appropriate safety gear at all times, and those who simply pass through such areas must be informed of the risks as well. All laser safety requirements are covered in the custom-tailored training courses offered by Laser Safety Consulting.
